Zhong Jianwei, you may not have heard of this name, but you must have seen the movie he participated in.
Whether it is the desert Inn in “New Dragon Gate Inn”, or the golden flower of the evil god Fire Cloud in “Kung Fu”;
Whether it's the stunningly elaborate mechanical table in “The Mummy 3” or the stunning steel behemoth “Troy” in “Tai Chi”;
Whether it's the adorable "Huba" in the "Monster Hunt" series or the mysterious drone in "Operation Red Sea"... It's all made by prop artist Zhong Jianwei and his team.
"Kung Fu" "golden flower secret device" evoked countless fan memories
The character of Huba in “Monster Hunt" was one of the most popular characters on the screen that year
With a career of 37 years and 100 works, Zhong Jianwei has grown up with Chinese films as one of China's leading experts in film and television setting props production.
Famous film-maker Zhong Jianwei
Now, he and his team have come to Qingdao to "settle down" in the China Movie Metropolis in the West Coast New Area, and devote themselves to the protection of ancient buildings while developing film and television. Recently, he sat down with a reporter from Peninsula All Media and talked about his story with the film.
Carved on the wooden beam frame "Phoenix wears peony", the majestic nine lion finch to support the arch, the different forms of cat beam components...... As soon as I walked into Qingdao Oriental Film Metropolis 235 landscape workshop, the reporter was attracted by a variety of pieces of ancient Chinese architecture, one of the most eye-catching is the exquisite gold lacquer carved wood screen and arhat bed.

Zhong Jianwei introduced to the reporter, "The gold lacquered wooden screen and Arhat bed have a history of 151 years. I bought them in Guangzhou 20 years ago. They were the birthday screen of the Chaozhou family at that time.
Zhong Jianwei is particularly fond of ancient Chinese architecture, artworks and old objects. He says that this is a process of accumulation while learning, which is of great help to my career. Most of the time to make scenery and props is to study history and culture, and it also gives us inspiration for creation. "We have to touch a lot. When we're making a set or a prop, we can tell at a glance whether the crew is doing something right or good enough, and we can change it immediately."

Choose one thing, the whole life, not for the busy easy ingenuity. Zhong Jianwei was born in Guangzhou and moved to Hong Kong. "I like to make handicrafts since I was a child. In 1985, I joined the crew of Jackie Chan and began to work behind the scenes of scene props. Now I have almost participated in the shooting of a hundred film and television works, and there are about one hundred thousand props produced. Film is a dream-making factory for Zhong Jianwei. He can present good works together with his team, which is the precious wealth of his life.

1992 edition of "New Dragon Gate Inn" "Huang Feihong's Wind of Kings" "Huang Feihong's Dragon City Destroyer" "Long River 7" "Kung Fu" "The Warlords" "New Shaolin Temple" "Dragon Gate Flying Swords" "Tai Chi" "Monster Hunt" "Journey West" "Red Sea Operation"...... These important works in the history of Chinese film all bear the imprint of Zhong Jianwei's team.
In the golden age of Hong Kong films, when "everything is overdone and crazy", Zhong Jianwei recalls that he learned a lot of hard knowledge with his passion and immersed in working day and night. "Making movies in Hong Kong at that time was like a big family. In a play, the actors, the directors are all brothers and sisters, and all departments help each other. In this opportunity, you can learn as much as you want. For example, you can learn lighting, photography, production, recording, editing and so on. It's a great exercise."
Zhong Jianwei's team consists of people in their 20s to 40s. "However, fewer and fewer young people are learning our field, and we need mechanical and digital personnel, but many of them are flowing to other industries. My responsibility now is to pass on what I have learned in my life to them."
